So why do this?
I love the visual aspect of developing a blog and like the idea of having a central organizing structure for recording and sharing. Then I think about the time it all takes and wonder about where I could better use this energy. And it feels a bit like I'm speaking in a black hole. Which is why it seems clear that to really be willing to put in the time and energy, the focus would have to be something I feel passionate about willing to market. Now that is something to consider...

Adding blogs...
Poked around and added a few more blogs and even asked for a couple feeds to my rss reader. That should pump up the old google email account :) Fun to seek blogs about interest areas: growing things, cooking, traveling, geography. (Sounds like an ad for the personals section.) Amazing what some very creative and dedicated people are doing!
Whoops!
That was interesting. Several error messages popped when I tried to post both the earlier posts. And then - voila! - both appeared at once. Surprise!!! (So I tried to delete one and could only "ghost" it.)
flickr fun
I did it! With the rudiments of flikr under my belt I'm ready to move on to a new challenge! Meanwhile I'm thinking about the relative time-suckingness and play appeal with a blog as compared to a facebook page. Jury is still out!

Flikr
I've been fighting with flikr which is about as productive as fighting with at toddler: the flikr and the toddler always win! Didn't want to enable the world to see pics of my grandkids, so I labeled them "friends and family only." Which totally complicates the opportunity to share them easily, but is a great way for flikr to get you to invite family and friends to join! Pretty slick - no? Anyway, here are a couple of pics of the canine members of our family. (They don't mind having a public face!)

Moving right along by adding some blogs. That's pretty easy! But I think I'll limit it to five (avoiding overkill). Wish I could click and drag things around to rearrange the page...alas, not possible. And as I learned yesterday, when I changed the page arrangement, I had to redo all the colors and fonts. Yikes! That was a job and 1/2.

Library Thing
Watching the women's NCAA semi-final between Stanford and UConn, and playing with Library Thing. It takes a while to add titles when I make the effort to flesh out the title entry. Will it really help me remember what I read? We'll find out ...
Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the link uploaded to this blog. As I'm learning: it's one thing to flit about the Web and explore applications - and it's quite another to gather all those disparate experiences together into this one place.
Onward!

Finessing your google search
Check out this slide show (thank you, NIH, for making it available to share!) about maximizing searching with google. Some great tips for using search features that we might not think about, and a great example of using google's web-based presentation software. Great option to microsoft's powerpoint!!! (And it works with a Mac!)

About the Octopus
What better image to represent my exploration into web2 than an octopus. This posted photo is Jimmy, March 2008 mascot of the Mark Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, OR . She was very social, and just think of all the tools you could access with 8 legs. Amazingly - and unlike my web2 exploration adventures - she never seemed to get tangled up with all those legs. I get tangled up each time I wander into a new application. But, the good news is, with a little focus I can usually get untangled.

The Beast Yawns...
The Wild Side has been anything but wild over the past several months. The Web 2.0 beasts were in hibernation, waiting for inspiration! Recently they have been flikr-ing and twitter-ing, stretching their tiny little minds to remember logins and passwords.
